Part One
Burton, Virginia Lee. The Little House. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2017.
Suggested Grade Levels: PreK-2
Genre: Children's Picture Book
Part Two
My prediction judging by the cover of this book was it was telling a story about the everyday life of a family living in a little house. No where near did I think it was about a personified house and it's everyday life. The author brought the house to life and provided it with emotions and thoughts. The illustrations were detailed enough at the start to tell the story itself without the words. The placement of the words were also in a new and unique order compared to other children's book which was refreshing to see.
Part Three
The main aspect I noticed with this children's book was it's ability to teach children about everyday life while also telling a story. The story explained the seasons, the stages of night and day, the moon cycles, and how life changes in general. The story starts out as the house wanting to move out of the country and into the city. As the city starts developing around the house, it isn't what the house was expecting. In fact, the house wants to move back to the country at the end of the story. I believe this teaches the readers that it's okay to be comfortable where you're at in life and to value where you came from.
Part Four
Discussion Questions:
1. What emotions did the house experience through out the changes
in the book?
in the book?
2. Which would you prefer living in, the countryside or city and why?
3. What does it mean to be curious?
